Dalat and Nha Trang (Vietnam)

Sometimes - we travel in style...........(see below)

"The crazy house" of Dalat, a free-wheeling architectural exploration of surrealism....

Each room is named after a plant or an animal and for the hardy ones, they also serve as  overnight accommodation!

Happy Birthday Mikey!!!!!!

Dalat, 1500m elev. reprieve from the heat - and strawberries and wine! amongst many other fruit, vegetables grow here.
Dalat liegt 1500 Meter ueber Meer, somit ideal um alles moegliche anzupflanzen (Erdbeeren, Aepfel, Wein etc.)

Kevin and Phoe, a Vietnamese couple we met on the bus introduce us to real Vietnamese food!

Floating homes and workplaces

Schwimmende Wohn und Arbeitsplaetze

A floating bar - must have been invented by and Australian.........

Finn with his new adoptive parents

Finn with his blond hair and fair complexion creates a lot of attention here in Vietnam. Something Finn generally loves!  People constantly touch and pinch him. More than once we had to intervene when the "affection" became a bit much for Finn.

Nha Trang fair!

Re: Transport, continuation from top.....

and then, "exactly the same thing" can look quite different a few days later:

Public transport hits an all time low
Department of tourism and transport - "No comment"
Minister for tourism and transport holidaying on private island in Med.

Overnight sleeping bus from Nha Trang to Hoi An, 12 hours, known to locals as "the roach express" - bed bugs travel free!
Air-connditioned via the bus drivers granny, coughing into garden hose whilst sitting on a sack of live chickens. Bedding resembles a service station tire repairers snot rag.
Steel framed bunks and beds held together with baler twine and bubble gum. Bottom bunk serve as sleeping quarters and toilet.
Imagine having both legs blown off after having stepped on a land mine and being carried to the back lines by 4 stretcher bearers. Well, that sums up the comfort of the bus. Other than given the choice I would gladly have shot the stretcher bearers and crawled over rotting fish and used condoms to get to Hoi An.
Yours sincerely
The toad
