We flew from Geneva to Sharm El Sheik (Sinai Peninsula). Sharm is well known as a diving and party holiday destination. We spend a few days in a charming hotel with a huge swimming pool...
Um die ganze Sache etwas ruhiger anzugehen, fliegen wir von Genf nach Sharm El Sheik. Wir verbringen ein paar Tage "am Pool"....

We travel the 400km from Sharm to Cairo by bus, leaving at 1.30 a.m. in the morning

Die 400 km von Sharm nach Cairo reisen wir im Bus, Abfahrt um 1.30 am Morgen.

Ein Ritt auf dem Kamel (Dromedar) bringt uns zu einem schoenen Aussichtspunkt.

Natuerlich sind wir nicht die Einzigen, aber gerade von Touristen ueberrant ist das Land momentan nicht. 

The inside of the pyramids is rather disappointing, a very narrow pathway leads to the rather small death chamber. All the treasures and mummies are safely kept in museums around the world (manly the Egyptian museum in Cairo that we visited before the pyramids). 

Wir haben die Gelegenheit das "Innenleben" einer Pyramide zu erforschen. Ein schmaler Gang fuehrt in die eher kleine  und auch leere Grabkammer. Alle Schaetze wurden schon laengst entfernt und man kann sie in Museen um die Erde bewundern. Wir sagen viele Kunstgegenstaende und auch Mumien im aegyptischen Museum. 

Finn:
Today we went to the pyramids. I climbed up 8 meters but then some policemen came and told me off because you were only allowed 1 row. I thought that the pyramids are smooth but they are not. I could ride a camel.

On our second day in Cairo we are treated to a private tour through the town (due to the lack of other participants) which turns out to be a very insightful and interesting experience. It gives us the opportunity to learn about daily life and the current political situation in this big city. 

Wir sind die einzigen Touren-Mitglieder die einen zweiten Tag in der Stadt bleiben. So haben wir den Reisefuehrer und Chauffeur ganz fuer uns. Es gibt einfach nichts besseres um das Alltagsleben und die Leute zu beobachten und auch sich viele Fragen beantworten zu lassen. 

The signs of the revolution are ever present throughout the city and also all over the countryside.  When travelling, our bus is stopped at several roadblocks and we have to produce our travelling visa. Soldiers in tanks with machine guns are positioned along the road and the tourism police guard all those ancient treasures in Cairo. 

Im Zentrum der Stadt sind die Zeichen der Revolution noch ueberall zu erkennen. Immer noch wird viel demonstriert. An jeder Strassenecke befinden sich Polizisten und Soldaten, manchmal mit Panzern oder Maschinengewehren. Haeuffig wird auch unser Bus angehalten und wir muessen unsere Reisepaesse vorweisen. 

People in Egypt are gearing up for elections starting next week. Anyone working with tourists is desperate to "get back to normal". Tourists are too scared to visit Egypt and many hotels are half empty. At the same time, we experience Egypt as a very warm and welcoming place and feel safe wherever we go. 
Viele Leute sind unterwegs um Stimmen fuer "Ihren" Kandidaten zu sammeln. Tourismus ist finanziell sehr wichtig fuer das Land, sodass sich viele Menschen einfach eine Rueckkehr in die "Normalitaet" wuenschen. Hotels sind halb leer und Touren sind sehr schlecht besucht. Fuer uns ist das zwar angenehm aber ich fuehle schon mit den Menschen, die kaum noch genug zum Leben haben. 

On a quad-bike we get to explore the area around Sharm-El-Sheik. 

Um die Umgebung von Sharm zu erkunden mieten wir Quad Bike's und geniessen den Sand!

.......and for the more relaxed approach some camels.....never again - but I said that last time and the time before......
und noch etwas gemuetlicher auf dem Kamel. Haette ja nicht gedacht dass ich mich jemals wieder auf ein Kamel setzen wuerde........

I wish a had a motorbike and a few more weeks in Egypt!!!!!!!

Haette ich doch bloss ein Motorrad und noch ein paar Wochen mehr Zeit fuer Aegypten!!!!!!!
